You are looking for a way to earn extra money and you want to do it without too much effort, because you are already working a lot. In other words, you should think about trying to make money from your phone.
If it’s a goal, you should be able to score. There are tons of phone apps and websites that can help people earn some extra money. Still, if you’re exclusively looking for strategies to make money on your phone, preferably without leaving the comfort of your couch, you can. Here are some ideas to remember.
1. Earn cash back when you shop.
This is one of the most obvious and easiest ways to make money on your phone. There are many websites that offer ways to earn money while shopping. A few include:
- Capital One Shopping.
- Collect rewards.
All of these cash back sites work differently, and alas, you can’t always use more than one at a time. But the bottom line with cash back sites is that they can be worth using. Cash back websites typically offer a slight discount, often slashing 3-5% off the retail price of anything you buy. If you use cashback sites and make the purchase with a credit card that offers cashback, you can do even better.
2. Take a survey and get paid for it.
This is another popular way to earn money from your phone. There are many applications that offer the possibility of participating in paid surveys. Of course, using the word “opportunity” can be a bit generous since the salary is often quite low. You’ll want to keep your expectations in check and don’t expect to make a fortune doing this.
Kathy Kristof is the founder of SideHusl.com, a website that reviews other websites that allow people to earn money on the side. She says that many survey and cashback apps and websites that let you earn money on your phone can be done while you’re lying on the couch watching a football game on your phone – but usually it’s not the kind of money that pays for a vacation.
“We estimate that if you’re lucky and efficient, you’ll earn about $2-3 an hour,” she says. It’s not a lot. “But it’s more than what you normally earn watching a football game,” says Kristof.
Some of the paid survey apps you might want to check out include:
- Brand surveys.
- Google Opinion Rewards.
- Swag Bucks.
There are many others. As with cash back sites, these paid survey apps all work differently, and you may not enjoy working with them all the same way. In fact, you might not like working with any of them, which brings us to our next tip.
3. Find websites or activities that you will enjoy.
Because you probably won’t make a fortune off your phone, it makes sense to spend some time trying to earn some cash in your spare time doing something you love. If you like to give your opinion on polls, earning a few dollars an hour can be worth it. If you find it a chore, there are surely better ways to spend your time.
For example, Earth.fm is a website run by a non-profit organization that allows you to earn money by recording nature sounds. This is a streaming website, accessible by phone or any device, that searches for unique sounds from around the world, such as the sound of croaking frogs in a bog or a thunderstorm. Its founder, Catalin Zorzini, based in France, says pay is “generally between $100 and $300 per hour of usable sound.”
That’s a pretty nice amount of money to earn on your phone — way more than $2 or $3 an hour — for hitting the record button. Yet, you could record hours and hours of captivating sounds and for some reason not get accepted by the website. But if you love being in nature and walking around in nature to listen to interesting and relaxing sounds, you might not care if you’re making money out of it.
4. Sell stuff.
If you want to avoid hoarding things you no longer use and aren’t in the mood to donate your stuff, you might consider trying to sell some of your possessions using your phone.
Nicole Booz, founder and editor-in-chief of GenTwenty.com and GenThirty.com, says she’s made quite a bit of money selling items at home using her phone.
“Instead of giving away items that I already own, I sell them. No flipping involved,” says Booz.
She admits she has to get off her couch and do some work, but Booz says she’s made $6,000 selling items on the Mercari.com app for the past two years.
“It’s still pretty simple,” she says. “I keep items in a pile, then take pictures of them in a well-lit area, then list them while I watch TV. I print the labels straight from my phone, place the item in a box of shipping and schedule a USPS pickup.
She adds, “I consider it a spare time hobby to spend some extra money on and I wouldn’t even call it a side hustle.”
Of course, there are many apps that you can download on your phone and earn money. Several of them include:
- Facebook Marketplace.
- The next door.
- 5 miles.
- posh mark.
These sites all have their particularities, advantages and disadvantages. For example, eBay is great for selling items worldwide; other websites, like Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, or 5Miles, may be better bets if you’re looking to sell locally. Decluttr specializes in selling tech, so if you have an aging iPad to sell, this might be the place to go.
5. Always have a plan.
Brainstorming is very couch-friendly. You don’t need to come up with a 40-point business plan, but on the other hand, that wouldn’t be a bad idea. If you really want to make money from your phone, it will take time and diligence. If you want to make a living, for example, by making videos on YouTube, in addition to requiring talent and getting people to watch you, you will probably need something to say or skills to present or information to be transmitted.
In other words, if you want to make a lot of money from your phone, whether it’s through paid surveys or selling your stuff or whatever you plan to do, you’ll have to spend on it. time and energy. It may seem easy to make money from your phone, but unfortunately you really can’t call it.
